At 7:45 p.m. on Friday, June 28 a press conference was given by NSP captain Sean Caradori, Crete chief of police Gary Young, Jr. and Saline County Sheriff Alan Moore about the shooting that occurred that evening. Seven people were injured including four children and two adults. The shooter Billy Booth, 74 of Crete, died of a self inflicted gunshot wound.

Last semester, art students at Doane University repainted the fire hydrants on campus to spice up the ordinary and add even more school-spirit to the campus. The Saline County Historical Museum in Dorchester and Indian Creek Historical Fashions will present an interactive program on Saturday, July 13 at 2 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to wear a hat and walk on the wild side of the Victorian era and learn what was going on beneath the gown. There is a mystery unfolding at the Crete Public Library for Teen Night on July 18 from 4 to 6 p.m. Teens will read the clues, pay attention to the details and see if you can solve the mystery before time runs out. Registration is required and the event is for teens ages 12 to 17.
The Cornerstone Bank (Geneva) seniors scored five runs in the first inning against York June 29 and didn't look back in a 10-2 win. Trevor Roach doubled and homered for Geneva, as well as striking out 11 York batters.
The Crete Post 147 Legion juniors baseball team swept its three games over the weekend, beating Chick-Fil-A 2-1 and Beatrice 12-0 June 29 and Wilber Post 101 8-0 June 30. Crete topped CFA despite recording just one hit and then notched nine against Beatrice, including two each from Triston Lenhoff and Wyatt Vorderstrasse. In the win over Wilber, Nick Wendt, Ethan Placzek, Zack Connell, Jay Wissenburg and Payton Steuer had two hits each. Lenhoff struck out six batters in three innings of work.
The Wilber Post 101 Legion juniors baseball team faced tough competition in a tournament at Crete June 29 and 30. Wilber fell to Chick-Fil-A 11-1 and Beatrice 10-2 June 29 before coming up short to Crete 8-0 June 30. Brock Young had two hits against Beatrice.
The Tri County juniors split their weekend games, falling to Adams 24-1 June 28 but beating Hebron 6-5 June 29. In the win over Hebron, Tri County finished with 11 hits, led by two each from Henry Kapke, Maddox Haake, Jayton Jones and Grady Schwisow.
The Tri County legion seniors opened the weekend with a 5-3 loss to Adams June 28 and split a doubleheader at Beaver Crossing against UBC June 30, dropping game one 9-4 but winning game two 14-4. In the win, Cole Spahr was 2-2, and he and Dustin Kapke drove in two runs each.
Friend American, 12 and under youth baseball, is runner up in the championship tournament. The Bulldogs were the underdog as the ninth seeded team. Their regular season record was 4-8.
