Stroker's Saloon celebrates first months in Wilber

Jason Brinkman opened Stroker's Saloon in Wilber on April 22, just 10 days after Fritz's Bar and Grill, the building's previous occupants, closed. Check out the Wilber Republican on July 24 to learn what to expect from the new bar and meet the owner.

Registration for coed softball closes TODAY

Crete coed slow pitch softball league sign up closes today. The Sunday games begin on Aug. 4 at Tuxedo Park. A tournament will follow regular league play. For information contact Parks and Recreation at (402) 826-4315.

Scrap tire collection for Saline County residents begins TODAY

Scrap tire cleanup for Saline County residents begins today at the Saline Center, located at the corner of Highway 15 and County Road M. Rims are not accepted; tires only.

Shoe drive for students underway

The Crete Eagles Club's first annual shoe drive is underway. The shoes and money collected will benefit children in schools in Crete, Wilber, Dorchester and Clatonia who are in need of new shoes but whose families cannot afford to purchase them. The Eagles Club is collecting money and shoes from now until Aug. 17. Check out the article in the Crete News or Wilber Republican on July 24 to learn more.

Free pool wristbands from CPS

Crete Public School families are able to obtain a wristband giving free admission to the Wildwood Pool in Crete. Wristbands are limited and able to be picked up beginning at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 23 at the Cardinal Welcome Center.

Wilber seniors fall to David City

The Wilber Post 101 seniors fell short at David City July 18 by a 10-5 margin. Carson Radcliff and Karsen Fisher had two hits each. Wilber is set to travel to Sutton Saturday, July 20, for a 5:30 p.m. game to close the regular season.

Citizenship classes offered in Crete

Free online and in-person citizenship classes are available in Crete at Union Bank & Trust. New students are accepted for the current program until July 21. Another session will begin in October. Classes are held Mondays and Wednesdays from 5-7 p.m. Interested parties need to register at bit.ly/freecitizenshipclasses

Chopped - July 25

Teens at Crete Public Library can put their kitchen skills to the test on Thursday, July 25 from 4 to 6 p.m. Registration is required and the event is for teens ages 12 to 17. Please inform the library of any food allergies when registering.

Junior dancers to perform twice in Crete

The Wilber Jr. Czech Dancers will not practice Monday July 22.
The group will at that time entertain in Crete at Tabitha and the Garden long term facilities. Dancers should be at Tabitha, 1800 East 13th, in full Czech costume by 12:30 p.m. And start dancing at 12:45 p.m.
The group will then go to the Garden, 1405 Hickory Ave., where they will dance at 1:30 p.m. This is a good dress rehearsal as the dancers prepare for activities associated with the 63rd annual Wilber Czech Festival.
